Appointing Catholics
The New Republic has discovered why the US Supreme Court is being filled with Catholics: because evangelical protestants have gained political power but they lack cultural artillery. The question is: must this void necessarily be filled by the Catholic "neocons," who are philosophically very close to the evangelicals? Is there an original Catholic proposal to American culture?

I have a few questions:
1. What is a "Catholic neocon"? What does a "Catholic neocon" believe in?
2. Why is a Catholic neocon's view not an "original Catholic proposal for American culture"?
3. What would an "original Catholic proposal" look like? How would it differ from the proposal of a "Catholic neocon"?
I am asking these questions because people use the term "Catholic neocon" a lot these days, and I don't know anymore what anyone really means. David Schindler in his recent book defines "Catholic neocon" as a Catholic who is too cumfy with modern liberal democracy. Well, a Catholic appointed to a public office like Justice of the SCOTUS is going to have to be outwardly and indwardly sympathetic to modern liberal democracy since his/her office is an organ within a modern liberal democracy. Just a few questions for discussion.
