In The Religious Sense, Giussani cites a passage from Visions of Cody and says that Kerouac is expresses an impotent hope. I have a Christian friend, who in one of her blog entries, cites another passage from Visions of Code, and describes Kerouac as showing a "morbid resignation of hope."
